About the Author
Betty Twigg grew up in McDowell County WV in the small town of Anawalt. The first eighteen years of her life she had little opportunity to interact with the world outside of public schooling and church activities. Her home life was a struggle for survival in an overstuffed household of two wonderful parents and eleven children born in the Deel family. You will get a broader picture of the childhood circumstances as you read the book Visions, Values, and Victories.
Although her family, friends, and cherished childhood memories were in Anawalt she knew there were greater opportunities and exciting experiences elsewhere that Anawalt did not offer. She knew there had to be a path to a more lucrative life.
An opportunity presented itself and she took the first step in June 1960. She rode a passenger train, traveling with the bare minimum of personal necessities, from Bristol, VA to Washington, DC. She could finally say “Hello” to a bustling big city, something she had always dreamed of. She then applied to and was accepted to a job offer with a major accounting firm, Arthur Young & Company. While employed she was fortunate to continue her education at Benjamin Franklin University Accounting & Finance, a school that later merged into George Washington University. She spent five years with Arthur Young & Company, now known as Ernst & Young. Rather than stagnate with one employer she decided that moving on to more challenging and more interesting employment would help her reach her goal of a continued rise to success. Moving on meant seventeen years in public accounting, three years as an international controller, and an eventual twenty years as a successful entrepreneur. Those final twenty years, with a dedicated administrative staff and skilled trades workers, were solely concentrated in Federal and State contract work in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.
In previous years she often vacationed in sunny Florida. She was intrigued with the unique and opulent city of Naples in southwest Florida. Today, stronger and wiser, she is enjoying her retirement in Naples, an area that offers snow white beaches, subtropical vegetation, art museums, restaurants, entertainment, boating, fishing and golfing.
Read her book to see her methods of climbing up the dream ladder to success. She held onto her visions, applied her values and reached some incredible victories in her life. She achieved her goals with hard work and dedication to employers, listening and learning, and following in the footsteps of successful individuals. Over the years she developed friendships with others with similar backgrounds and accomplishments.
She hopes that readers will enjoy and perhaps be inspired by her life story. She feels grateful and blessed and will always owe a debt of gratitude to her parents for teaching her integrity, honor, faithfulness, reliability and graciousness.
